Mobile Classroom

Bringing flexible, fully equipped learning settings to rural Australia at a fraction of the regular cost.

“The Mobile Classroom's self-contained learning environment allows subjects to be taught concurrently with conventional school activities.”

Pathly’s mobile classroom known as Teachers on Wheels will bring fully equipped learning environments to rural Australia at a significantly lower cost than traditional schooling. The modular nature of our Mobile Classroom allows us to customise it according to the needs of each specific region.

For most rural areas, our Mobile Classroom can work independently from traditional schooling, or it can be placed strategically at partnering schools to expand a school’s service offerings. As a self-sufficient learning environment, the Mobile Classroom allows subjects to be taught in parallel to existing school schedules without disrupting regular school activities. Further-more, it creates an alternative to the formal school classroom and creates an engaging experience for students where they can learn by doing rather than traditional rote learning methods.

The Mobile Classroom will bring Pathlys’ STEM Learning Hub and other programs to rural communities. Students in rural areas have less positive dispositions towards the school on every measure (belonging, self-confidence, purpose and perseverance) than their metropolitan peers. The goal of the Mobile Classroom is to provide students with more skills-based learning opportunities.

Our Mobile Classroom Concept

Pathlly Inc (Previously Teachers on Wheels: tow.ngo) is a registered Not for Profit organisation in New South Wales, Australia and partnering with like-minded nonprofits in the US and India. Our mission is to alleviate poverty by providing outcome-based work skills training for the youth. We work in rural and urban areas of New South Wales where youth unemployment is prevalent. Our industry-trained volunteers are equipped to teach teenagers and young adults employable skills that will become their foundation for a successful entry into the job market.

Young people living under the welfare system seem to have common needs. The Smith family Education for Life program has identified a high rate of youth dropping out of school due to a lack of mobility. This is rooted in the fact that parents cannot support their children with their education due to sickness in the family and more so in single-parent households. For instance, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS, 2016) indicates that in rural South Tamworth only 9 per cent of single-parent households have a full-time job. And, 85 per cent of those unemployed are women. In addition to this, children from single-parent households tend to do poorly in studies which are closely linked to high rates of joblessness.

  • At Pathly, Inc., we are dedicated to addressing the needs of youth and assisting them to move from welfare dependency, all while giving students an opportunity for mainstream employment as trainees or apprentices with established companies. The innovative approach used by our program will inspire these at-risk students to become productive members of society rather than struggling through life without hope; unemployment rates are high because people lose access not only to important income streams but also to social status among those who have no jobs available.
